Gender Ends Three Days Capacity Building Training For Adolescent Girls

(Sunday, May 30, 2021, Monrovia, Liberia) - The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, (MGCSP) with support from medica-Liberia and United Funding for Development for Underage Mothers (UFDUM) has ended a three-day capacity building training for Adolescent Girls.

The training was aimed at strengthening the skills of the newly recruited Adolescent Girls' Advisory Panel (AGAP) members on advocacy strategies, and skills needed to enhance the efforts of the Adolescent Girls Working Group with the hope of an impact on adolescent girls programming in Liberia.

According to MGCSP's release, the Adolescent Girls' Division (AGD) addresses issues, needs, and concerns of girls between the ages of 10-24 years, with special emphasis placed on girls between the ages of 10-15 years.

Adolescent Girls Division has the responsibility to ensure national programs and policies are synchronized to work efficiently and better for girls in order to accelerate their growth and reduce poverty.

The three-day training highlighted the need to ensure that girls’ voices are heard, and their activities are fully implemented.

At the end of the training, the girls developed a workable education and communication campaign that will focus on raising awareness of adolescent girls’ issues, including ending child marriage, female genital mutilation, rape and other forms of domestic violence.

The training also fostered participants' learning on advocacy, monitoring and lobbying strategies with focus on concrete actions including specific learning around practical strategies and critical advocacy and monitoring interventions for adolescent girls programming.

The capacity building training workshop took place at the Ministry's office, Oldest Congo Town, Monrovia from May 26-28, 2021.
