Monrovia, Liberia - The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has congratulated the Lonestar Female Under 20 Team for an exceptional performance against their Guinean counterparts.
The Lonestar Female U20 Team, in a domineering performance on Sunday, January 19, 2020, defeated the Guinean Female Team 3-0 in the 2020 Fifa Women’s Under-20 World Cup Qualifier, at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium (ATS).
"I am exceedingly pleased with the performance of our emerging female stars. They handled the ball well and, with such mastery and immaculate display of talents, I'm optimistic that the Women’s Under-20 and Under-17 World Cups are within our reach", Gender, Children and Social Protection Minister Williametta E. Saydee-Tarr noted.
Last week, the Nation's celebrated the victory of Liberia's Under-17 Female Team, trashing their Nigerien counterparts 4-0 in the 2020 Fifa Girl’s Under-17 World Cup Qualifiers.
According to the Gender Boss, the involvement of females in what might be seen as non-traditional women sports, like soccer - helps boost self-confidence, engender and instill discipline in the girls, as well as strengthens their teamwork skills which eventually turn into lifelong leadership abilities.
Minister Saydee-Tarr has committed to mobilizing more support for the female teams. Stating that, with the ingrained support that the girls are getting from the Chief Patron of Sports, H.E. George Manneh Weah, President of the Republic of Liberia, it's time that all Liberians get on board to support girls in sports, especially when they are flying our national colors.
Gender Minister extended her institution's appreciations to the Technical Staff and Head Coach Robert Lartey of the team, and the leadership of the Liberian Football Administration headed by Mustapha Raji, along with the Ministry of Youth and Sports under its illustrious Minister D. Zoegar Wilson, for their collective service and dedication to the female teams.
The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection also acknowledges the support shown to the teams by the Monrovia City Corporation, under the able leadership of the Lord Mayor Jefferson T. Koijee. With the collective support of everybody, this year promises to be a very exciting year in sports!!
