The Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection was honored to participate in a two-day joint cooperation discussion between Liberia and Morocco in Rabat, during which 13 Memoranda of Understanding were initiated.
Deputy Minister of Gender, Atty. Laura Golakeh, represented the Ministry and made significant contributions following two days of intensive negotiations.
The agreements cover vital sectors such as Health, Education, Water, Trade, and Industry, signaling a new era of cooperation between the two nations.
It can be recalled, on July 10, 2024, the Government of Liberia and the Kingdom of Morocco negotiated and initialed 13 memoranda of understanding through the Liberia-Morocco Joint Cooperation. Key among these is the partnership agreement focusing on social development, including the empowerment of women, child protection, and the rights of vulnerable groups such as persons with disabilities.
The agreement also outlines a bilateral program for capacity building within the Ministry, support for combating gender-based violence (GBV), training of social workers, and assistance for the elderly. The official signing ceremony is expected to take place in Monrovia later this month.
Deputy Minister for Gender, Atty. Laura Golakeh, played a pivotal role in advocating for social protection interventions during the meeting, supported by a team of experts from Foreign Affairs, Education, Public Works, and other government ministries and agencies.
