Social Assistance

The Social Assistance Division focuses on advocating for and protecting the rights of persons with disabilities, the elderly, and other vulnerable groups. This division is comprised of three units: Rehabilitation, Psychosocial, and Ageing. These units are tasked with implementing programs that address the needs of these populations, ensuring their welfare and integration into society.

Function of Social Assistance
Psychosocial Unit
The Psychosocial Unit provides psychosocial support services to all vulnerable children and families in communities, institutions and one stop centers. It also works with survivors of Gender Based-Violence, Flood victims, vulnerable children etc. (The Act that created the MGCSP, 2014).

Ageing Unit

The ageing unit provides support/care to the ageing Populations. It works along with residential and community-based institutions by implementing programs and providing support to the ageing (The Act that created the MGCSP, 2014).

Rehabilitation Unit

The unit is responsible to seek the welfare, implement and develop programs for persons living with disabilities in Liberia. It is also the monitoring arm for welfare institutions that provide services for children living with disabilities (The Act that created the MGCSP, 2014).

Community Welfare Unit

The unit is effectively serving different groups in communities including schools, hospital, and sectors of various communities through protection, advocacy, prevention and supportive services in accordance with the MGCSP and the GOL policies and procedures (The Act that created the MGCSP, 2014).
