The Division of Children Protection and Development, under the Department of Children and Social Protection, is committed to safeguarding vulnerable populations, particularly women and children. The division operates through five specialized units: Family Preservation, Orphanages, Adoption, Persistent Non-Support, and the Juvenile Unit. Each unit is responsible for delivering targeted social services aimed at improving the well-being of children, families, and communities.
Functions of Children’s Protection & Development Division
Juvenile Unit
The unit provides preventive and supportive services to children in contact and conflict with the law
Orphanages Unit
The orphanages unit is responsible to protect, advocate for to all orphans and vulnerable children in orphanages across Liberia in accordance with MGCSP and GOL policies and Procedures.
It also ensures that orphanages are in compliance with the tools and regulations for children living in orphanages or alternative.
Persistence Nonsupport Unit
The unit of the persistence nonsupport at the ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection is there to make show that children be supported by their fathers through the basic social support system of children example: medical, Food, education and clothing and in some cases, shelter is included in the social support that is when the couple are married.
The Family Preservation
Is responsible to preserve families, it does mediation amongst families.
•It provides income assistance for vulnerable families (in kind, case or training).
• It also advocates for scholarship for vulnerable children and it provides assistance to mothers with multiple children
Adoption & Foster care Unit
This Unit in Liberia is dedicated to protecting vulnerable children and promoting their rights, ensuring they grow up in nurturing and secure environments, whether through adoption or foster care services
