
As a key step toward scaling up project deliverables, mitigating gaps and challenges and ensuring partners are in alignment with the overall project goal and objectives, @Liberia Women Empowerment Project participants, including frontline actors and stakeholders, are this week meeting in Monrovia to craft a work plan for year two of the project implementation circle.
The meeting which convened on Wednesday, 17 September 2025, gathered the project Coordinators and core implementation teams, including consultants and Government of Liberia officials, Coordinators of Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection at the country levels, will conclude on a comprehensive roadmap for the project activities in the coming year, ahead of upcoming midterm review scheduled for October, 2025. Participants are also expected to reflect on the first-year implementation, with particular focus on progress made, achievements, challenges and lesson learnt. The meeting is also expected to identify potential gaps, opportunities and priorities for year two, and at the same time provide strategic directions including results framework, indicators and thematic focus areas and strengthen partnership and coordination among key stakeholders.
In her opening remarks, Madam Miriam Murray, Country Director of ๐๐ฅ๐๐ง ๐๐ง๐ญ๐๐ซ๐ง๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐๐ฅ ๐๐ข๐๐๐ซ๐ข๐, emphasized that the Liberia Women Empowerment Project is not solely a ๐๐ฅ๐๐ง ๐๐ง๐ญ๐๐ซ๐ง๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐๐ฅ ๐๐ข๐๐๐ซ๐ข๐ initiative, but a government-owned and government-led program supported by the World Bank. Madam Murray noted that ๐๐ฅ๐๐ง ๐๐ง๐ญ๐๐ซ๐ง๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐๐ฅ ๐๐ข๐๐๐ซ๐ข๐, along with its consortium partners- CRS, ActionAid, FCI, DCI, Keep Liberia, Medica Liberia, and Raising Voices was carefully selected to support implementation due to their expertise and strong community presence.

Madam Murray reiterated the importance of the project to women of Liberia and urged the participants to ensure quality in their work to deliver on the outcome of the project at community and national levels. She highlighted key priorities for discussion during the meeting, including harmonization and coordination among partners, improved monitoring and reporting, strengthened visibility of the Ministry of Genderโs leadership role, and increased beneficiary feedback to ensure that community voices are central to implementation.
The ๐๐ฅ๐๐ง ๐๐ง๐ญ๐๐ซ๐ง๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐๐ฅ ๐๐ข๐๐๐ซ๐ข๐ CD also applauded the disbursement of small grants to beneficiaries last week, calling it a โcritical milestoneโ that communities can now directly feel.
In special remarks, on behalf of the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Atty. Laura Golakeh, Deputy Minister for Gender, expressed pride in the progress achieved over the past year, but underscored that much remains to be done.

Deputy Minister Golakeh emphasized transparency, accountability, and visibility as key pillars for success. She reminded participants that the project, which is expected to benefit more than 267,000 Liberians across six counties, is financed largely through loans that future generations will repay.
