After Advancing Women’s Agenda and Engaging U.S.-Based Diaspora
Liberia’s Minister of Gender, Children And Social Protection, Hon. Gbeme Horace-Kollie, has returned to Monrovia following her impactful participation at the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), held in New York City. Madam Horace-Kollie formed part of the official Liberian delegation accompanying H.E. President Joseph Nyuma Boakai.
While in New York, Minister Horace-Kollie actively engaged in a series of bilateral and multilateral meetings, advocating for Liberia’s progress on gender equality, women’s empowerment, and the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda. She showcased Liberia’s achievements in promoting women’s participation in peacebuilding and governance and called for continued international support to sustain and expand gains made in gender-responsive development.
A key highlight of her mission was her participation in a UN Women–organized Women, Peace and Security Ministerial high-level gathering, where she rallied support for increased global investment in women’s leadership within peace and security structures, emphasizing Liberia’s role as a regional leader in implementing the WPS agenda.
Minister Horace-Kollie also joined a high-level diaspora outreach Town Hall, aimed at updating U.S.-based Liberians on national progress and challenges in post-war reconstruction. The event brought together members of the Liberian government delegation from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, State, Health, Gender, Children and Social Protection, among others. Together, they presented a united front in strengthening ties with the diaspora and encouraging their active role in national development.
With her return, Minister Horace-Kollie is expected to engage with local stakeholders, civil society organizations, and international partners to build on the momentum from UNGA and further align national gender policies with global development goals.
Meanwhile, Madam Horace-Kollie has applauded her team at the Ministry of Gender for the energy and commitment they have demonstrated so far. She reassured the Ministry’s commitment to advancing gender equality and women’s right.
