The Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection (MGCSP) is making rapid strides in its Street Child Project titled, “Support A Child, Save A Future,” by securing several essential materials to enhance the welfare and protection of children when they are removed from the streets.
In a significant move to accelerate the program’s implementation, the Ministry has acquired 169 mattresses, which will provide comfortable sleeping arrangements for street children transitioning to care facilities. Additionally, 50 donation boxes have been secured and will soon be strategically placed at hotels, supermarkets, banks, and other public locations to encourage support from individuals and organizations for this important cause.
Hon. Josephine Greaves, Assistant Minister of Children and Social Protection, expressed the Ministry’s commitment to driving the project forward: “These materials are crucial in creating a safe and nurturing environment for the children. The mattresses will ensure their comfort, while the donation boxes will engage the public in supporting our efforts to give these children a better chance at life.”
Since its launch, the “Support A Child, Save A Future” project has focused on providing street children with safe shelter, educational opportunities, and essential services to aid their development. The project’s pilot phase is currently underway in Montserrado County, with plans to expand nationwide.
The acquiring of these materials marks a vital step in the Ministry’s efforts to address the growing issue of street children in Liberia. By placing donation boxes in high-traffic locations, the Ministry aims to raise awareness and generate much-needed financial support from the public to sustain and expand the project.
“The public’s involvement is key to the success of this project,” said Assistant Minister Greaves. “We encourage everyone to contribute in whatever way they can, whether through donations or advocacy, to help us create a safer and brighter future for our children.”
With these materials now in hand and the support of the community, the Street Child Project is in full swing, reinforcing the Ministry’s commitment to protecting and uplifting Liberia’s most vulnerable children. The Ministry looks forward to the continued support of all Liberians as it works toward a future where every child has the opportunity to thrive.
