On Tuesday, May 27, the Ministry of Gender launched a three-day refresher training for call center operators and One Stop Center staff across Montserrado County.
The training seeks to strengthen the capacity of frontline service providers in addressing gender-related issues and to enhance the overall quality of service delivery.
Sponsored by the World Bank, the program brings together key personnel from the National GBV 116 Call Center and One Stop Centers to equip them with updated knowledge and practical skills. A central focus of the training is on harmonizing data management practices to minimize duplication and improve efficiency in case tracking and response.
According to Madam Bennetta Jarbo, Director of the GBV Division at the Ministry of Gender, a well-informed and coordinated workforce is essential in the fight against gender-based violence and in providing timely support to vulnerable individuals.
“This training will not only sharpen the skills of our teams but also ensure that data collected across all centers is streamlined and accurate,” said Jarbo. “That way, we can offer faster and more reliable support to those who need it most.”
Participants welcomed the initiative, noting that it would enhance their confidence and competence in handling calls, documenting cases, and providing timely referrals.
The Ministry of Gender plans to roll out similar capacity-building programs as part of its broader strategy to improve the responsiveness and effectiveness of its gender-based services.
In December 2024, the Ministry of Gender with support from the World Bank, officially unveiled the National GBV 116 Call Center. The new facility, launched at the EJS Ministerial Complex, represents a major step forward in ensuring swift and effective responses to cases of GBV across the country.
With a toll-free hotline, the National GBV 116 Call Center is designed to provide survivors of GBV with immediate access to counseling, referrals, support services and reporting abuse against women and girls. Operated by trained personnel, the center aims to bridge the gap between survivors and the necessary resources, ensuring confidentiality, empathy, and timely intervention.
