On August 19, 2025, the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, through the Save the Future Project, officially launched a two-week intensive Vacation/Preschool Program. The initiative aims to morally, emotionally, and mentally prepare newly enrolled children ahead of the opening of the 2025/2026 academic school year.
The program is being implemented simultaneously at two public school campuses in Montserrado County: Tubman High School Campus (12th Street, Sinkor) and Special Project High School Campus (Stephen Tolbert Estate).
Of the 1,600 documented new enrollees, the current rollout targets 500 children, primarily those frequently seen accompanying visually impaired caregivers to beg in high-traffic areas across Montserrado.
The official opening brought together 215 children and 85 caregivers living with disabilities, mainly individuals who are visually impaired. The day was filled with fun activities, play sessions, and motivational messages directed especially at the caregivers—encouraging their active commitment to the program and ensuring consistent attendance by their children.
To facilitate participation, the project team through its project lead and in consultation with the Office of the Acting Minister Frederick Cooper, secured two NTA buses, providing safe and convenient transportation for the children to and from the campuses each day.
