Gender Minister Inducts New Coordinator For Bong County, And Emphasizes Unity and Commitment.

On Tuesday, January 21, 2025, Hon. Gbeme Horace-Kollie, Liberia’s Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, inducted Madam Madam Musu M. Mulbah as the new Gender Coordinator for Bong County.

The ceremony took place at the Gbarnga Administrative Building, drawing a diverse audience of local officials, women’s groups, youth representatives, individuals from the disabled community, healthcare professionals, members of the Liberia Children Representative Forum, and delegates from various government ministries, agencies, as well as the Christian and Muslim communities.

Madam Mulbah succeeds Mr. Joe E. Smith, who had been serving in an acting capacity since 2020 following the retirement of the former coordinator. In his turning over remarks, Mr. Smith reaffirmed his dedication to the ministry’s mission and cautioned against the influence of politics in its operations.

Expressing her gratitude, Madam Mulbah pledged to build upon the existing foundation, emphasizing the importance of unity and passion in executing the ministry’s objectives. She extended special thanks to Minister Horace-Kollie for entrusting her with the role and acknowledged Superintendent Loleyah Hawa Norris for her steadfast support.

Addressing her staff in Bong County, Minister Horace-Kollie emphasized team work and commitment. She highlighted their responsibilities, urging them to respond promptly and effectively, as their work centers on protection and support. She encouraged them to be prepared to serve diligently.

Minister Horace-Kollie was impressed by the turnout, stating it demonstrated Bong County’s strong commitment to support its own development. She praised Superintendent Hawa Norris for her unwavering support, expressing confidence that under her leadership, gender-related initiatives would face no obstacles. The Minister also acknowledged the dedication of the Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Taskforce and emphasized the importance of strengthening coordination among its members.

In a related development, Mrs. Talimani L. C. Flomo was also inducted as a Social Worker, further strengthening the ministry’s team in Bong County.

Following the induction, a mini-rally was held to mobilize resources for the renovation of the county’s Gender Office, established in 2009 but currently in disrepair. Superintendent Norris pledged 10 bundles of zinc towards the refurbishment, underscoring the county’s commitment to supporting the ministry’s endeavors.

These initiatives underscore the Ministry’s dedication to fostering a safer and more equitable environment for all Liberians, with teamwork and community involvement being pivotal to achieving these goals.
