.Strengthened Voices Through the Liberia Women Empowerment Project (LWEP)
The Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Madam Gbeme Horace-Kollie, on Thursday, November 27, 2025, led a high-power delegation to Nyehn’s Town, rural Montserrado County where women participating in the Liberia Women Empowerment Project (LWEP) proudly showcased inspiring demonstrations, from natural manure production to strengthened business accountability practices.
Their achievements were presented to the Gender Minister along with Georgia Wallen, World Bank Country Manager in Liberia; the LWEP PMU team led by Madam Blossom Hodges; and LWEP service providers, illustrating the significant progress women have made through the project.
The visit, which coincided with the third day of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, served as a moment of visibility, inspiration, and action. It aligned strongly with this year’s campaign focus on highlighting how LWEP is advancing women’s economic empowerment, transforming harmful social norms, strengthening reporting pathways, and promoting peaceful, non-violent communities.
The women’s hands-on demonstrations in climate-smart agriculture, financial accountability, and community leadership showcased empowerment in practice, not theory. The delegation, headed by Minister Horace-Kollie, also participated in a dynamic SASA! community dialogue on building peaceful communities, reinforcing the central message of the 16 Days of Activism.
The visit continued with stops at the Nyehn’s Town Liberia National Police Station and the local magistrate court, emphasizing the importance of institutional accountability and reminding justice and security actors of their responsibility to protect women and girls.
The day ended with hope, pride, and renewed determination. The message echoed clearly: Empowered women build stronger families, stronger communities, and a stronger Liberia. Through LWEP, women are advancing economic and social progress, at the heart of the 16 Days of Activism.
