Gender Minister Urges Incorporation of Strategic Frameworks that Address Issues Affecting Women and Girls

MONROVIA – Liberia’s Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection has called for the urgent integration of strategic frameworks that directly tackle the complex and persistent issues confronting women and girls across the country.

Speaking at the opening session of the UN Women’s Staff Retreat, Minister Gbeme Horace-Kollie emphasized that Liberia’s progress towards a gender-equal society depends on strong, transformative partnerships, particularly those grounded in practical, forward-looking strategies.

“Our journey toward gender equality cannot succeed without deliberate frameworks that address the root causes of inequality—gender-based violence, harmful traditional practices, economic exclusion, political marginalization, and the disproportionate impact of climate change on women’s livelihoods,” she said.

She described the retreat as a timely and critical platform for shaping priorities that will guide UN Women’s work from 2026 to 2030. More than a planning exercise, she noted, the process must serve as a call to action, one that produces a strategic plan rooted in the real-life experiences of the women and girls it aims to serve.
