In collaboration with the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, the Artisanal & Small-scale Mining Sector Working Group (ASMWG) held a one-day meeting focused on the management of the artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) sector.
The meeting, hosted at the Ministry of Gender, brought together various stakeholders from across the ASM sector, including development partners, NGOs, and other organizations involved in ASM activities.
In a brief welcome remarks, Deputy Minister for Research, Policy and Planning, Hon. Curtis V. Dorley encouraged participants to freely share their ideas, experiences, and concerns to help shape a more inclusive and sustainable ASM sector in Liberia.
The primary goal of the gathering was to share ideas on promoting sustainable mining practices in Liberia and to provide updates on ASMWG’s membership. Discussions also centered on ensuring the long-term availability of resources while minimizing the negative environmental and social impacts of mining on ecosystems and local communities.
