Gender Ministry Concludes Stakeholders Validation Workshop on Harnessing the Full Potential of Adolescent Girls in Liberia

The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, with support from UNICEF and UNFPA, has successfully concluded a two-day stakeholder validation workshop focused on harnessing the full potential of adolescent girls in Liberia. This important initiative marks a significant step towards advancing gender equality, social inclusion, and the rights and empowerment of adolescent girls across the country.

Adolescent girls in Liberia continue to face multifaceted challenges, including limited access to education, healthcare, economic opportunities, and protection services. These issues are further exacerbated by harmful social norms and practices that hinder their development and well-being.

To address these barriers, the Ministry is leading a project that promotes inclusive and gender-responsive programs aimed at empowering adolescent girls through education, health services, leadership development, and protection from gender-based violence.

The purpose of the stakeholder workshop was to:

~Engage key stakeholders from government institutions, civil society, youth organizations, development partners, and communities;

~Validate the core objectives, strategies, and expected outcomes of the adolescent girls’ empowerment project;

~Ensure that the voices, needs, and lived experiences of adolescent girls are central to project design and implementation;

~Strengthen partnerships and clearly define roles and responsibilities among stakeholders to enhance collaboration and accountability.

The two-day event, held from July 1-2 2025,, provided a valuable platform for inclusive dialogue and strategic reflection. Participants included representatives from relevant government agencies, NGOs, youth-led organizations, and international development partners. Their contributions enriched the project framework and reinforced the commitment of all parties to prioritize the needs of adolescent girls.

The validation process documented key findings, refined project approaches, and built consensus around a shared vision for adolescent girls’ empowerment in Liberia.

The insights gathered during the workshop will inform the finalization and implementation of the adolescent girls’ empowerment project. Stakeholders reaffirmed their dedication to supporting adolescent girls and agreed to maintain ongoing coordination through structured engagement platforms.

The Ministry extends its gratitude to all participants and partners who contributed to this milestone and looks forward to working collectively to ensure that no adolescent girl is left behind.
