Gender Ministry Empowers 54 Caregivers with Vocational Skills to Break Cycle of Child Street Selling and Begging

The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection in partnership with Christ Embassy Vocational School, celebrated the graduation of 54 caregivers of former street children after completing six months of intensive training.

The caregivers were recruited under the Ministry’s Save The Future Project.

The program equipped participants with livelihood skills in diverse fields including beauty care, catering, tailoring, soap making, construction, electricity, plumbing, satellite installation, and computer science, among others. The initiative forms part of the government’s broader effort to strengthen family resilience and reduce child vulnerability through sustainable income-generating opportunities.

Serving as Guest Speaker, Deputy Minister for Children and Social Protection, Hon. Garmai S. Tokpah, expressed gratitude to Christ Embassy Church for its collaboration and commended the graduates for their discipline and determination. She urged the caregivers to use their newly acquired skills to improve household income rather than sending children to sell or beg in the streets.

Deputy Minister Tokpah emphasized that the Save the Future Project remains a flagship intervention of the Ministry of Gender, designed to empower families and protect children from exploitation while promoting long-term social and economic stability.
