LWEP Presents Several Items To Ministry of Gender

The Project Management Unit (PMU) of the Liberia Women Empowerment Project (LWEP) has presented several essential items, valued at over US$200,000, to the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection.
Valued at over US$200,000, the contribution includes three 2021 model Toyota Landcruiser Jeeps, four Toyota Yamaha motorbikes, and a range of office equipment. This substantial support significantly enhances the ministry’s logistical capabilities, enabling more effective outreach and service delivery to communities across the country.

The presentation took place on Thursday, July 11, 2024, at the EJS Ministerial Complex in Congo Town.
The donation is part of LWEP’s efforts to strengthen institutional capacity under Component 4 of the project, which focuses on enhancing public institutions to promote gender equality.

Handing over the keys to the Ministry of Gender, the head of LWEP’s Project Management Unit, Cllr. Margaret Nigba Gayedyu, remarked, “Today, we are pleased to contribute these resources, which we believe will bolster the Ministry’s efforts in advancing gender equality and social protection.”

The donation marks a crucial milestone in advancing gender equality and social protection initiatives in Liberia.
The LWEP’s initiative, under Component 4 of its framework, aims to strengthen public institutions like the Ministry of Gender to better advocate for and implement gender-sensitive policies.
Deputy Minister for Administration, Hon. Frederick Cooper, receiving the items, expressed deep appreciation for the donation, emphasizing its critical role in bolstering their efforts:
“This donation provides a significant logistical boost to our ministry. It empowers us to expand our reach and effectiveness in promoting gender equality and safeguarding the welfare of vulnerable groups.”
Such partnerships underscore Liberia’s commitment to addressing systemic barriers to gender equality while fostering inclusive development and social progress. As these efforts continue, the impact of collaborative initiatives like LWEP resonates deeply in empowering women and ensuring equitable opportunities for all citizens.

The Liberia Women Empowerment Project is a US$44.6 million World Bank fund initiative aimed at addressing key barriers to gender equality in Liberia. It aligns with the government’s priorities on women’s empowerment and the prevention and response to gender-based violence (GBV).
Additionally, the project complements existing investments and introduces new initiatives in healthcare, education, and services for GBV survivors.

The LWEP’s overarching goal is to enhance social and livelihood services for women and girls in selected communities, promote positive social norms, and strengthen the government’s capacity to advance women and girls’ empowerment. The project targets approximately 257,200 people across six climate-vulnerable counties, spanning an estimated 750 communities.
