Midterm Review Of Liberia Womwn Empowerment Project

MoGCSP, World Bank, Project Team Visit Careysburg, Lower Montserrado County

The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MGCSP), in collaboration with the World Bank and the Liberia Women Empowerment Project (LWEP) team, continued its Midterm Review with a field visit to Frank Town, Careysburg in Lower Montserrado County.

During the visit, one enterprise and seven Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) proudly shared compelling stories of transformation. Beneficiaries highlighted how LWEP grants and training have enhanced their livelihoods, promoted economic independence, and strengthened resilience within their communities.

Ashutosh Raina, World Bank Task Team Leader, encouraged participants to focus on developing skills that foster self-reliance rather than dependency, echoing LWEP’s core mission of sustainable empowerment.

The review team also engaged with the Kesseh VSLA to reflect on lessons learned, and met Mammie Jessie, a determined pig farmer who is successfully expanding her business through LWEP support.

The visit concluded with a powerful SASA Together session led by Medica Liberia, sparking community dialogue on gender equality and the importance of peaceful homes.
