Begins Midterm Review of Women Empowerment Project
A visiting delegation from the World Bank has paid a courtesy visit to the Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Madam Gbeme Horace-Kollie, as part of the team’s 10-day Midterm Review of the Liberia Women Empowerment Project (LWEP).
The joint review mission, conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Gender, the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, and key project partners, is aimed at assessing the current status of LWEP, evaluating progress, identifying challenges, and outlining the way forward for effective project implementation.
In her remarks, Minister Horace-Kollie warmly welcomed the World Bank team and expressed her Ministry’s sincere appreciation to the Bank for its unwavering support in uplifting women across Liberia. She recounted how the Ministry has made significant strides in promoting transparency, accountability, and ensuring women’s representation in all aspects of governance and development.
During the visit, the delegation held discussions with Minister Horace-Kollie to align on the objectives of the Midterm Review and to better understand the Government of Liberia’s perspective on the project’s progress and impact.
The day also featured technical meetings with the Lead Service Provider, Plan International Liberia, and its consortium members, Catholic Relief Services, Medica Liberia, KEEP Liberia, Defense for Children International, Foundation for Community Initiatives, and ActionAid Liberia. These discussions focused on lessons learned during the first year of implementation and opportunities for scaling impact.
In the days ahead, the World Bank team, along with MoGCSP and partners, will visit project communities in the pilot counties of Rural Montserrado and Gbarpolu to engage directly with beneficiaries and local stakeholders.
