The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection extends heartfelt congratulations to the Liberia Football Association on the successful launch of its nationwide Women’s Football Program targeting young girls between the ages of six and twelve.
Gender Minister, Madam Gbeme Horace-Kollie said: “This initiative marks a significant milestone in nurturing early talent of adolescent girls, expanding opportunities for girls in sports, and strengthening the foundation for women’s football in Liberia.”
The initiative is a direct pillar of FIFA Women’s Football Strategy (LITTLE PHENOMS) designed to create safer, fun and inclusive spaces for young female players across Liberia.
Minister Horace-Kollie applauds President Mustapha Raji and the Women’s Football Department for their visionary leadership in creating a safe, inclusive, and inspiring pathway for girls to explore and develop their potential in football. “This program not only promotes athletic development but also contributes meaningfully to confidence-building, teamwork, and personal growth for young girls across our country.”
As we celebrate this achievement, the Ministry encourages the LFA to continue investing in strong social protection mechanisms for the girls participating in all women’s football programs. Ensuring their safety, on and off the pitch remains paramount.
Over 300 passionate young girls were given the space to express themselves on a football pitch during the launch of the program.
“We call all women football administrators, female players, coaches, and referees to take full advantage of the National 116 Toll-Free Hotline to report all forms of violence, harassment, or abuse experienced on the pitch, during training, in the dressing room, or in any other setting. Your voices and your protection matter.”
The Ministry would also appreciate the FA’s collaboration in sharing relevant data on its women’s development programs and in fully incorporating the Ministry of Gender into all women’s football development initiatives across the country.
The Ministry reaffirms its commitment to working alongside the LFA to promote women’s empowerment, safeguard the rights of all girls in sports, and build a sporting environment where every young talent can thrive without fear.
Meanwhile, the Ministry urges other sports federations to emulate the local FA by creating sports-empowerment programs for adolescents.
Congratulations once again to the Liberia Football Association for this bold and empowering step.
