“Perpetrators of Violence Against Women and Girls Must Be Held Accountable Regardless of Their Status”

…Gender Minister Reaffirms Gov’t Commitment

In a bold and resolute statement, the Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Gbeme Horace-Kollie, has reemphasized the government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring accountability for perpetrators of violence against women and girls, regardless of their social status or professional affiliation.

Speaking during the UN Orange Community Festival held on Monday, December 9, 2024, in Monrovia, the Minister underscored the importance of accountability in addressing violence against women and girls and the need to dismantle systemic barriers that protect offenders.

In her address, the Minister stated: “It is critical to ensure that perpetrators of violence, regardless of their status or place of work, are held accountable so that survivors receive justice without delay.”

The Minister emphasized that violence, in all its forms, undermines the safety, dignity, and rights of individuals, particularly women and girls, who remain disproportionately affected. She noted that ending gender-based violence requires actionable commitments, sustained partnerships, and deliberate interventions to create safe spaces where women and girls can thrive.
