The kids in Sonkay Town, Todee District, Montserrado County were in a joyous mood after receiving a huge consignment of school materials that brought smiles and excitement to their classrooms. This generous donation, consisting of notebooks, pencils, pens, storybooks, and educational toys, was provided by UNICEF Liberia to the Sonkay Town Vocational and Heritage Centre.
The center, which has long served as a beacon for both education and cultural preservation, welcomed this donation with deep gratitude. The materials will significantly enhance the learning experience for local children, many of whom are engaging with formal education for the first time.
But this initiative goes beyond school supplies. It represents a collaborative effort to provide alternative economic livelihoods for traditional practitioners, encouraging the abandonment of harmful practices such as Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). By equipping community members, especially women and girls, with skills, education, and resources, we’re collectively laying the groundwork for a more empowered and equitable future.
This important donation was made possible by UNICEF Liberia through the partnership with Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection.
