UNICEF Country Representative to Liberia Identified Child Education, Maternal Mortality as Critical Priorities.

UNICEF Country Representative to Liberia Andy Brooks, has identified child education and maternal deaths as critical priorities that Liberia must urgently address.

Mr. Brooks made these remarks at the National Program Marking the official celebration of the Day of the African Child (DAC).

The event which was held under the theme: Investing in Our Future; Prioritizing Child Rights and Ending Child Labour through Budget Action brought together over 300 children from various schools across the country.

Brooks emphasized that there is a need to providing quality education for children and tackling issues like early marriages which are essential to ensuring a safer and more productive future for Liberian children.

He noted that in order to tackle these issues, the government of Liberia through the Ministry of Education needs to take deliberate actions and demonstrate strong political will.

The UNICEF Country Representative made these remarks on Tuesday at a program organized by the Ministry of Education to commemorate the Day of the African Child.

Also speaking, the keynote Speaker Roberto Cooper appreciated the continued support of the government of Liberia, local and international partners, UNICEF, the One UN Family, SOS Children’s Villages, Plan International Liberia, save potential of every Liberian child amongst other.

He called for more decisive actions and intensified efforts to address the ongoing challenges facing children in the country.
