FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Monrovia, Liberia), The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MGCSP) strongly condemns the performance of a song containing sexually explicit and age-inappropriate content by Liberian artist Christoph The Change at a school event attended by minors.
The incident occurred during the gala day celebration of St. Teresa Convent Catholic School, as videos circulating on social media show students, many under the ages of 18 singing and dancing to such an inappropriate song. The Ministry finds this occurrence deeply troubling and inconsistent with national child protection standards and moral expectations for educational institutions.
The Ministry wishes to emphasize that schools must remain safe, protective, and child-friendly environments. Any form of entertainment or activity that exposes children to sexually explicit material is unacceptable and undermines their dignity, well-being, and healthy development.
The Ministry is particularly concerned that such content was allowed at an event organized for children within a learning institution widely recognized for discipline and moral instruction. This raises serious questions regarding content vetting, supervision, and adherence to child safeguarding principles by event organizers and school authorities.
The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection maintains that Liberia is a signatory to several international child rights instruments, including the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, and has national laws and policies that prohibit the exposure of children to harmful and inappropriate materials.
The Ministry insists that all stakeholders, including school administrations, entertainers, parents, and event organizers, share a collective responsibility to protect children from abuse, exploitation, and moral harm.
The Ministry calls for a thorough review of the incident and urges relevant authorities to take appropriate measures to ensure accountability and prevent the recurrence of similar incidents in schools and child-centered spaces across the country.
The Ministry remains resolute in its commitment to safeguarding the rights, safety, and welfare of all children in Liberia and will continue to advocate for stronger enforcement of child protection standards nationwide.
