On Wednesday, March 18, the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection welcomed a delegation from Ethiopiaโs TIMRAN for an exchange on the countryโs Transitional Justice Process, with a focus on gender advocacy and survivor-centered initiatives.
TIMRAN, is an Ethiopian women-led civil society organization dedicated to advancing womenโs political participation and public leadership.
The delegation from Ethiopia included representatives from government ministries, the Ethiopian Human Rights Commission, civil society organizations, and victimsโ associations.
The visit focused on experience-sharing on Liberiaโs transitional justice processes and provides a valuable platform for mutual learning and strengthened collaboration, particularly in examining the countryโs post-conflict recovery efforts in the aftermath of the Liberian Civil Wars.
The delegation was received by Acting Gender Minister, Hon.Frederick S. Cooper, who emphasized the importance of shared learning in strengthening systems that protect and empower survivors.
A deliberation was made with key focus on Liberiaโs progress following the civil war, including key initiatives such as the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Liberia, strengthened legal frameworks like the amendment of the Rape Law of Liberia , and coordinated support systems for survivors.
The engagement underscores Liberiaโs continued commitment to advancing inclusive, survivor-centered justice through collaboration and knowledge exchange.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Bilen Asrat, Head of the Delegation, described the engagement as a valuable platform that offers important insights which will greatly support her countryโs continued efforts to strengthen its own processes.
โThis engagement has provided us with meaningful and practical insights that will be of immense value to our country as we continue to strengthen our own processes. We are particularly impressed by the level of openness and the depth of information shared, which truly reflects a strong commitment to collaboration and learning,โ she stated.
