Ministry’s Intervention
Immediately upon receiving the report, the ministry’s assigned Social Worker promptly contacted the John F. Kennedy One Stop Center to confirm the survivor’s admission and the commencement of medical treatment.
Medical personnel informed the Social Worker that the survivor required urgent surgery and that two (2) pounds of blood were immediately needed to proceed. In response, the Ministry’s Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Division engaged relevant authorities and partners through rapid follow-ups to facilitate an expedited medical response and ensure the timely availability of the required blood.
The survivor successfully underwent surgery on the night of February 27, 2026, and is currently responding positively to treatment. She remains under medical care and observation.
The Ministry, through its GBV Division, continues to closely monitor her condition and will ensure the provision of comprehensive support and necessary follow-up services to promote her recovery and wellbeing.
The alleged perpetrator is currently in police custody in Sanniquellie, Nimba County, and the Ministry is collaborating with law enforcement to ensure that justice is pursued in accordance with the law.
The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection is deeply troubled by this incident and further regrets the situation, expressing profound sadness that another girl child has been subjected to such a traumatic act.
The Ministry reaffirms its unwavering commitment to the protection of women and children, as well as to ensuring accountability for all acts of sexual and gender-based violence. The public is strongly encouraged to promptly report all cases to enable timely intervention and the pursuit of justice.
