The Ministry Of Gender, Children And Social Protection-Liberia MGCSP) has begun an eight-day joint field monitoring mission under the Liberia Women Empowerment Project (LWEP), aimed at assessing progress and strengthening implementation across project communities.
The mission is being led by Deputy Minister for Research, Policy and Planning, Curtis Dorley, along with the National Project Coordinator, members of the LWEP Project Management Unit, Ministry of Finance and Development Planning as well as the Service Providers. Activities commenced in Rivercess County on April 22, 2026 and will extend to Grand Gedeh County.
According to the Ministry, the exercise seeks to evaluate ongoing interventions, identify challenges, and enhance service delivery at the community level. The delegation will visit several project communities and engage beneficiaries and local stakeholders throughout the mission.
The field visit began with a formal reception and consultations with county authorities in Rivercess , including County Superintendent, Barwon Zahnway. Discussions focused on strengthening collaboration and ensuring effective implementation of the project.
Speaking during the engagement, LWEP Project Coordinator Blossom Hodges said the team was pleased to be in Rivercess to review progress made through its service providers. She noted that the monitoring mission would help identify key gaps and inform next steps for the project.
Deputy Minister Dorley reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving the livelihoods of women and vulnerable populations. He emphasized the importance of working closely with local leaders to ensure the success and sustainability of the initiative.
In response, Superintendent Zahnway praised the Ministry’s efforts to advance social development, noting that the LWEP is already making a positive impact on communities across the county. He pledged the county administration’s continued support for the project.
The LWEP is currently being implemented in 84 communities in Rivercess County. Project data shows that 286 groups have been profiled and organized to receive livelihood grants under Component Three. Following approval of their applications, more than 5,000 beneficiaries are expected to receive support in the first phase.
The joint monitoring mission is expected to conclude after engagements in key communities across both Rivercess and Grand Gedeh counties.
