(Monrovia, January 11, 2025) – The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection is deeply shocked and saddened by the tragic incident that occurred on Friday, January 10, 2025, in the Soul Clinic Community, where a one-year and five-month-old girl was murdered by her biological mother.
The Ministry condemns this heartbreaking act in the strongest terms and commends the Liberia National Police for promptly arresting the suspect. Ms. Annie Duo is currently in police custody undergoing further investigation for onward prosecution.
The Ministry extends its deepest condolences to the bereaved family during this time of immense grief. As part of its mandate to protect and promote the welfare of children, the Ministry will provide psychosocial counseling and other necessary support to help the family cope with this devastating loss. The child has already been laid to rest, having been buried on the evening of January 10, 2025.
In light of this tragic incident, the Ministry is urging the public to take advantage of the National GBV 116 Call Center to report all cases of abuse in their communities. The call center is a 24-hour toll-free service established by the Ministry to provide immediate support to survivors of violence and ensure swift intervention. The Ministry encourages community leaders, caregivers, and residents to use this platform as a convenient and confidential medium to report all forms of violence against women, girls, and children.
The Ministry remains steadfast in its efforts to protect all children in Liberia and calls on everyone to play an active role in safeguarding the lives and welfare of the nation’s children.
