Ministry Of Gender, Children And Social Protection-Liberia MGCSP Hosts World Bank Mission Field Visit in Gbarma City Today

Gbarma City, Gbarpolu County, Liberia – Friday, May 15, 2026: The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, through the Liberia Women Empowerment Project, is today hosting a World Bank Mission Field Visit in Gbarma City, Gbarpolu County.

The field visit brings together the World Bank Mission Team, the Project Management Unit, Plan International Liberia as Lead Service Provider, and service providers including CRS, ActionAid Liberia, Medica Liberia, KEEP Liberia, as well as county authorities, community leaders, beneficiaries, Community-Based Agents, Grievance Redress Committee members, VSLA members, faith-based organizations, influencers, and local government representatives.

The visit is intended to provide the World Bank Mission Team with first-hand information on the progress, impact, achievements, challenges, and lessons learned under the Liberia Women Empowerment Project in Gbarpolu County. The day’s program includes an opening session, project overview presentation, interactive stakeholder engagement, field observation, site visits, and reflection sessions with project actors and community members.

During the engagement, stakeholders will discuss key areas including project impact and benefits, safeguarding and Gender-Based Violence prevention, the functionality of the Grievance Redress Mechanism, community participation and ownership, as well as challenges and recommendations from the field.

The Ministry’s County Gender Coordinator is expected to provide an overview of LWEP interventions in the community, while the Lead Service Provider will highlight key achievements, challenges, and lessons learned. The World Bank Mission Team will also interact directly with beneficiaries, VSLA members, community structures, and implementing partners to better understand the gains being made through the project.

As part of the field observation, the Mission Team will visit VSLA group activities, interact with livelihood beneficiaries, observe community structures and interventions, and witness a demonstration of the Champion of Change School Club activity supported under the project.

The Liberia Women Empowerment Project is a Government of Liberia project implemented by the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, with financing support from the World Bank. The project is designed to empower women and girls, strengthen basic services, promote positive social norms, enhance community participation, and support women-led livelihoods across targeted communities.

The Ministry welcomes the World Bank Mission Team to Gbarpolu County and reaffirms its commitment to transparency, accountability, community ownership, and effective implementation of the Liberia Women Empowerment Project.
