The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has commenced a rigorous intervention aimed at removing children found in street situations, particularly those engaged in street selling and begging, across Montserrado County. This initiative forms part of the Ministry’s ongoing commitment to protecting vulnerable children from exploitation, abuse, neglect, and the numerous dangers associated with life on the streets.
The exercise is being carried out with the primary objective of ensuring that every child is given the opportunity to grow up in a safe, nurturing, and supportive environment where their rights are protected and their well-being is prioritized. Children belong in homes, schools, and communities where they can learn, play, and develop, not on the streets where they are exposed to serious risks.
The Ministry is therefore calling on all parents, guardians, and caregivers to fully cooperate with this important exercise. Public support and collaboration are essential to ensuring the success of this intervention, as safeguarding children is a shared responsibility that requires the collective efforts of families, communities, civil society, and government institutions.
The children of Liberia are the nation’s greatest asset and the foundation of its future. Every child deserves the opportunity to live in dignity, receive an education, enjoy proper care, and realize their full potential. By protecting our children today, we are building a stronger, safer, and more prosperous Liberia for generations to come.
