The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection continues to champion girls’ education through the Liberia Women Empowerment Project (LWEP), implemented with support from the World Bank. The project is creating safe spaces where adolescent girls can build confidence, develop leadership skills, and gain the support they need to remain in school and pursue their dreams.
During a Champion Club session in Grand Gedeh County, Cathy—a student who was once too shy to express herself in class—began a remarkable journey of personal growth. Through mentorship, life skills training, and encouragement from her peers and facilitators, she found the confidence to raise her voice, participate actively, and eventually take on a leadership role within the club.
Today, Cathy is not only thriving academically but is also serving as a role model for other girls in her community. She encourages her peers to stay in school, overcome challenges, and believe in their potential to succeed. Her story reflects the transformative impact of the Liberia Women Empowerment Project and demonstrates how investing in girls’ education helps build stronger families, more resilient communities, and a brighter future for Liberia.
