The Government of Liberia, through the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MGCSP), is expanding the reach of the Liberia Women Empowerment Project (LWEP) by extending its interventions to hard-to-reach communities in Garwula District, Grand Cape Mount County. As part of this effort, 38 community activists and leaders—18 women and 20 men—are participating in a three-day SASA! Together Awareness Phase Training at the Sinje Youth Center. The training is designed to strengthen the capacity of local leaders to become advocates for positive social change and to foster safer, healthier communities.
Through the SASA! Together methodology, participants are gaining practical knowledge and skills to challenge harmful social norms, prevent gender-based violence, and promote respectful relationships within their communities. By engaging both women and men as partners in preventing violence, the initiative encourages collective action and community ownership in addressing the root causes of gender inequality. The Ministry remains committed to ensuring that even Liberia’s most remote communities have access to life-changing interventions that empower individuals, strengthen families, and contribute to peaceful and inclusive development.
