Buchanan, Grand Bassa County – July 27, 2026 – The Adolescent Girls Advisory Panel (AGAP), under the Adolescent Girls Division of the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MGCSP), successfully concluded a three-day advocacy and educational support initiative in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County, as part of activities marking Liberia’s 179th Independence Day celebration.
The initiative, which was held from July 25 to 27, 2026, with support from UNICEF, aimed to promote the rights of adolescent girls while providing educational support to young participants attending the national Independence Day festivities. The activity served as an important platform to engage girls in meaningful discussions on their rights, education, leadership, and personal development.
Throughout the three-day engagement, participants took part in interactive awareness sessions, mentorship activities, and received educational materials designed to encourage them to remain in school, make informed life choices, and build the confidence needed to become positive agents of change within their communities. The initiative also created opportunities for girls to share their experiences, strengthen peer support, and learn from mentors committed to advancing adolescent girls’ empowerment.
The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection reaffirmed its commitment to protecting and empowering adolescent girls by ensuring that national celebrations extend beyond ceremonial events to include meaningful investments in the education, leadership, and well-being of Liberia’s young women. Through strategic partnerships with UNICEF and other stakeholders, the Ministry continues to promote initiatives that create safe spaces, expand opportunities, and amplify the voices of adolescent girls across the country.
As Liberia celebrated another year of independence, the successful implementation of the AGAP initiative underscored the importance of equipping adolescent girls with the knowledge, skills, and support necessary to realize their full potential and contribute to the country’s sustainable development.
